"Drop Dead Cynical" is a song by Swedish/Danish band Amaranthe from their third studio album Massive Addictive. It was released as the first single from the album on 1 September 2014. It was composed and written by members of the band Olof Mörck, Jake E Berg and Elize Ryd.
Amaranthe were revealed to be the returning act of the seventh edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with "Drop Dead Cynical". The song managed to win the edition with 207 points, more than 40 points over the runner-up. Following their victory, Amaranthe revealed the continuation of their previous NVSC tour: The Hunger Tour – Chapter Two. The band performed in several countries before the contest, among them Denmark, Germany and Sweden.
Amaranthe performed twentieth in the first semi-final from where they qualified in the fourth place with 95 points. They was later drawn to perform last in the grand final. Amaranthe managed to win the final with 231 points, just three points ahead the runner-up. "Drop Dead Cynical" held the record for the highest score of a winner, later taken by Kazakhstan's "Falling For You" in the thirteenth edition and later re-taken by the country in the fourteenth edition with "My Crown". It received high points from seven countries: Azerbaijan, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lebanon, Liechtenstein and Sweden. After the contest, the band continued their tour which also included concerts in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
