Freya Christina Clausen (born November 17, 1978) known by her mononym Freya is a Danish singer-songwriter and television personality based in Copenhagen.

Career[]

1999-2005: Career debut and Sparkler[]

In 1999, she had huge success with her single "Yellow Lovebird" and later released two studio albums, Tea with the Queen and Chasing My Tale which produced radio hits such as "Girlfriend Application" and "Rain". Freya performed a cover of Tracy Chapman's "Talking 'Bout A Revolution" for the charity album Reminder, released on March 21, 2002.

She later formed the band Sparkler with Rune Westberg, Kåre Cable Mai, Peder Kjøbsted and Jacob Gurevitsch. They released the album Magnifying Glass in 2003. Freya was nominated in 4 categories in the Danish Music Awards in 2000 and 2001, and in 2001 she won the award for the Best Danish Vocalist.

2006-2013: Television work[]

Between 2006 and 2010 she worked for MTV, where she hosted ​​the program Spanking New, which focused on new music. She also reported from the major award shows EMAs and VMAs before she was hired in 2010 on VH1. Freya has also worked as an English-language television host for the European television channel STAR!, where she reported about large film premieres and fashion weeks.

2014-present: Thrills[]

On September 29, 2014 published Freya her first official single "Into the Fire" as a solo artist since 2001. She later released her third studio album called Thrills.

NVSC 12[]

Freya was revealed on December 20, 2014 as one of the four participants of the eighth edition of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the Danish selection. She participated with her first official single, "Into the Fire". The song performed fourth and last during the final of the selection and later went on to win the selection with 280 points receiving eleven 12 points from the voters.

Due to Denmark being a host and big 5 member during the edition, Freya was automatic qualified in the final. She performed her song tenth during the final, preceding Andorra.
