RÚV confirmed that 8 acts would again compete in the national selection. This time, the voting was split between televoters and juries which represented each region of Iceland.
Iceland was allocated to perform in the second half of semi-final two, in position #18, after Luxembourg and before Netherlands. Iceland managed to qualify to the grand final, and it was later revealed that the country placed 9th with 59 points. In the final, Iceland performed 19th, after Greece and before Ukraine. At the close of the voting, Iceland placed 24th with 57 points, which, coincidentally, is the exact same result the country got in the previous edition. Iceland placed 19th with the televoting, but 20th with the juries.
The Icelandic head of delegation at the time announced that he would be withdrawing from his position. Due to this, Iceland was left with no head of delegation, and consequently did not participate in the tenth edition which was held in Bergen, Norway. However, the country would go on to return in the eleventh edition after a new delegation was found.
