MAIA started off by writing songs for other singers. Her first credited songwriting was in 2011 when she wrote "Løber i stiletter" for Jasmin, which competed in the fourth edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. She also wrote the follow-up single of the singer, called "Mit rette element". In 2014, she wrote three songs for Astrid for her EP Danser (helt alene) (2014); "Hvad blev der af vi", "Er der nogen", which competed in the fifth edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, and the title track "Danser (helt alene)".
MAIA first appeared as a vocalist in Clemens' 2014 single, "Øjenåbner". The song peaked at the ninth position in the Danish charts and was later included in Clemens' studio album Klemmedrengen (2014). In 2015, she composed "Tæt på mine drømme" for Julie Bjerre which competed in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2015, the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She also co-wrote "Beautiful Alien" for Darude, which was included in Darude's fourth studio album, Moments (2015).
