The United Kingdom debuted in the 1st edition of North Vision Song Contest and has been participating ever since with the exception of the twenty-fifth edition. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) has been in charge for the country's participation since the first edition.
The country has been using different formats to chose their representants at the contest. Battle for Britain has been used for the sixth and fifteenth editions. Eight editions later, the format returned and was used for the twenty-third and twenty-fourth editions. In It To Win It had also been used from the seventeenth and North Vision Song Contest 22.
In the twenty-sixth edition, after some internal changes, the delegation came up with a new format: North Vision: Your Decision.
The United Kingdom is (by statistics) one of the most successful countries in the contest, with fourteen Top 10 finishes, including one win, two finishes in 2nd place and a finish in third place. Success came to the United Kingdom in the sixth edition with Chlöe Howl winning with her song "Rumour".
